Social protection newsletter: October-November 2019

Resource type
Issues brief

In this first Social Protection Newsletter from GIZ, the organisation describes the kick-off of its work to support the implementation of the Malawi National Social Support Programme (MNSSP) II in 22 districts. Capacity building and coherence are on the agenda:

Harmonising district implementation

The team’s early work includes scoping a Project Implementation Manual for the MNSSP II. The manual strengthen the implementation of social support interventions in Malawi’s districts by providing step-by-step guidance. The project team has also helped the Government of Malawi to roll out the Unified Beneficiary Registry in three more districts: that’s the database that pulls together all social protection programme data in one place.

Training district officers

More than 70 participants join a certificate course at Magomero College to sharpen their skills in important topics, such as running savings and loan groups and peer learning growing the produce for home-made school meals.

Linking social protection to resilience measures

To improve linkages between social protection programmes and resilience measures, the GIZ project supports the implementation of the Enhanced Public Works Programme pilot scheme. Work has been underway on a data visualisation tool to support the Enhanced Public Works Programme. The tool aims to help managers to visualise activities and progress.
